The notion that people somehow need to be bribed to work (they require incentive) doesn’t fit with how humans are hardwired. Usually when one hears of welfare queens and the like, it’s nearly always political demagoguery meant to stir up one group against another.

You might see a hedge fund manager complaining about illegals coming across the boarder just for the privilege of working in a hell hole of a meat packing plant. People take all sorts of risks for the opportunity to work without someone pointing a gun at them to do so.

Yes, a few poor people do try and game the system, but the real gamers are the guys raking in the big money on Wall Street and K street. And yet those accused of being deadbeats are mostly poor minorities. We just have to find extraordinary ways to give these bums an incentive to work — really!

Depending on physical and mental limitations humans have a built in incentive to work. In fact If you were to give everyone in the US ten thousand bucks for doing absolutely nothing, 99% would still be working at some useful job. Indeed, the idea of disincentive is way overrated.
