The Republican Party was one big cause of the formation of their Trump base, because of dog whistling tribal xenophobia. As I have said, up until relatively recently the bad eggs have been widely dispersed. Thus they enjoyed little power and little notice. Then, too, social media made it possible for the misfits to rally together, and of course Fox and the other right-wing “news” outlets played to their grievances.

As for the Donald he is so batshit crazy he is even shooting his own best troops. That gives cover for the established right to go directly after Trump. So I see the Republicans soon joining Democrats, once Mueller has made his report, impeaching the Don. But here is where the real trouble begins.

Mike Pence has the sort of slick personality to basically corral the Republican base in much more effective ways than the lifetime failure, Trump, could ever hope to do in his wildest dreams.

Then again, maybe Trump has so much faith in the loyalty of his supporters that he thinks he can peal them off from the traditional right, forming his own party, which is what I originally thought he was aiming for before he, out of the blue, won the presidency. If he pulls that off — who knows?

In any event the misfits of the world are united against the not always united moderates and progressives. To quote someone, I forget who, SAD.
