The Trump Two-step

We have all seen this bizarre dance so many times now that the steps are totally familiar. The president usually gives two performances before the cameras on important issues. One is for his Fox News Base and the other is for Congress and a more rational audience.

Most of the time, but not always, his first show is for his bat shit crazy base. This is a freewheeling, diatribe that makes no sense. Then with the whole free world shaking in its boots, he reels back the crazy with a calm, rational, well-measured message contradicting all that came before.

With the first performance it is like he just got off the phone with Steve Bannan, and with the follow up show it is as if he has been consulting with Mitch McConnell. Only a truly outrageous, schizophrenic mind could put off this act. As they say there is a method to his madness. Unfortunately having a madman as head of state in America is to be skating on a world of very thin ice.

I must say, however, that British Prim Minister Theresa May seemed to have little trouble following his wild gyrations, a very smooth dancer.
