There are only two primary mandates within the primitive ego — to live at all costs and to seek advantage at every opportunity. It is this most powerful hardwired inpulse to live at all costs that is the basis for religion and a desire for some sort of immortality, which of course in the Christain religion is to live for all eternity in heaven with Jesus.
