There is another basis for religion — that it springs directly from the primitive ego. The primary function of the ego is survival and to seek advantage at all cost. You of course see this most unfiltered in children and immature adults like Donald Trump — me, me, mine.

In fact the survival instinct is so power that it wishes to extend survival beyond the mortal flesh, and it is this aspect of the most powerful of human impulses where religion come into play.
