This is nothing new. A certain portion of every society, of all times, remain infantile folks who can’t seem to rise above their primitive, hardwired, egocentric tribal impulse for violence against the “other” as a cover for their own shortcomings. Then along comes some ruthless, xenophobic demagogue (a Trump or a Hitler) who unites their hatred into the ultimate mass deflection from a failed self — a suicide pact dressed up as a life savior.

What makes this period a bit different is that many folks in America remember the good life following WWII before the super rich decided not to share the wealth anymore. Indeed, the one time great middle class is now the new poor, the most unstable faction of a society.
