This one is a no brainer. Science deals in facts. Religions deals in wishful thinking. We all need hope and a reason for existence. Unfortunately for human ego and feelings the universe is completely indifferent to our emotional needs.

Within the enormous age of the universe, humankind is just a flash in the pan and no more important in the big picture than a blade of grass, somrthing our ego can't handle, so we frame ourselves as God's special creatures.
