Trump Is Also The Face Of A Backlash To An Evermore Secular America
While Donald Trump’s religious credentials are shaky at best, he is dog whistling not only those wallowing in bigotry and Xenophobia but fundamentalist Christians as well, those who see there belief system as being eroded away by science and the rational thought of the modern world.
Indeed, related to religion the largest gaining group in America is nontheists. “The 2016 Reason Rally took place on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C…. The Reason Rally Coalition is dedicated to emphasizing that a person can be good without believing in any god. This event represented a community that advocates for public policy to be based on scientific evidence, not religious beliefs. The nontheist community advocates medical research based on scientific rigor, not on ideological influences. Nontheists are voters who support the separation of religion and government and who think that public policy should be based on facts, not faith.” This statement is taken form the Freethought Society News.
To mostly older generations who see such things such as the Reason Rally and nontheists as unnerving, they gladly welcome Trump’s overtures to them no matter how flawed the Donald may be as a basic human being — any port in s storm.
In other words Trump is gathering up all the groups that he thinks the modern word has stranded. He is fighting the rearguard action for vested interests of all sorts, from polluters and gun nuts to religious fanatics. But even if the Donald manages to squeak by and win this current rearguard action by gaining the presidency, he and his ilk can’t hold back history for very much longer. America is maturing. Reason always wills out in the end, at least until the ultimate negative offset of nuclear Armageddon arrives, having nothing whatsoever to do with religious hocus-pocus, by the way.
