Trump Is Wrecking The GOP Over Its Obamacare Political Stunt
By the time Barack Obama was elected president the base of the GOP had become largely xenophobic, thus the surest way for right-wing Republican candidates to get to the US House of Representatives and Senate was to attack anything associated with a black president. For thirty years the GOP had been trying to counter the demographic shift of growing minorities that was running against it by dog whistling the lowest common denominator among older White voters.
In other words all the lies and hatred hurled at the Affordable Care Act (ACA), derisively nicknamed Obamacare, had little if anything to do with healthcare per say and everything to do with Republicans getting elected to and taking control of Congress. Thus one very sleazy Donald J. Trump saw that what the Republicans were doing was right down his alley of sordid operations. And so began Trumps mantra that President Obama was not really an American — show us your birth certificate he would cry out. It was the key to his eventually taking over the degraded Republican base.
And so now with the Republican base and the wretched right-wing media firmly in his corner, Trump is free to jerk the GOP establishment around over its one time political stunt of vowing to overturn Obamacare. First President Trump is for overturning the ACA and replacing it with something great, then he is simply for overturning Obamacare and maybe at some later date replacing it with who knows what. As long as he can make it out to be that he has produced a win he could care less what happens to the GOP establishment — conservative or moderate. He’s just an independent contractor as far as party and country go — right Mr. Putin?
Trump has always been a Benedict Arnold personality at his core, just waiting to stab some person or some institution in the back when he thinks (with his terrible judgment) that it serves his own best interest of the moment to do so, and therefore he is currently raking the GOP over the coals with its repeal and replace of Obamacare venture, because in his Darwinian mindset average Republicans belong to him not the traditional GOP — that which he is out to destroy — poor Mitch McConnell.
