Trump Says I’m your All Powerful Tribal Leader Folks
As I have repeatedly stated all creatures are egocentric, meaning of course that they value the self and its offspring above all else. The second level of egocentrism in support of self is the tribe. In fact at the level of existence the family and the tribe are almost one and the same psychologically, if not biologically. And of course the first level of what we call governance is the tribal chieftain — the all-powerful leader of the tribal self.
In order to serve the collective self-interest, the tribal leader need only display one primary attribute. He must exhibit a commanding determination to place the interests of the tribe above all other interests. Indeed, he need not be the smartest or the most honest among the society of like kind, just the most seemingly formidable.
It is in Trump’s nature to unleash all within his somewhat limited capacity to promote himself as the all-power tribal overlord. Whether he studies this method or it simply spring spontaneously out of his reptilian mind might never be known, but in any case it seems to have attracted a commanding fallowing.
For the more sophisticated among America’s citizenry, or those merely hoping to personally gain from Trump’s leadership, he many seem little more than a windbag and buffoon. For those White folks, however, who see themselves and their kind as being crushed by a supper complex world beyond their control, Trump presents himself as a sort of modern day messiah, which in essence is what a tribal leader’s position must occasion. This in large part accounts for the strong evangelical support flowing to Trump.
Therefore at the beginning, when the Donald came rolling down the Trump tower escalator tearing into Mexicans as rapists and murderers, he was not too subtly announcing to depressed Whites that he was their savior, their long awaited tribal leader. Sure, many of these Whites rationally understand that the Donald is a liar, a cheat, and a con, but he’s their guy, their con, their leader, and as afore mentioned, it is the fact that he presents himself as their guy, their leader that is the overriding quality of an effective tribal Chieftain — little else matters to the primitive psyche.
And so there is no method of fact or logic that one can hope to employ that can discredit Trump in the eyes of his true believer devotees. Thus it explains Trump’s bragging that he could shot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue and he wouldn’t lose a single vote. Next to self, the tribal impulse is just that powerful to the primeval ego.
And that, alas, my friends is the dilapidated state of affairs in which the world and we find ourselves.
