Trump Tells A Frustrated Set Of People What They Want To Hear
If you are made of demagogic cloth and you find a large enough set of people desperately looking for hope, any sort of hope, you have the makings of an irrational mass movement. This is because it has been said by a wise one that men pray not so much for their daily bread as for their daily deception.
For the United States of America our last mid century of enormous industrialization was an unsustainable aberration. Coming out of the factors of World War two, for a brief period of history, industrial production concentrated within our shores. This created a huge middle class of reasonably well off Americans who came to believe that this was the norm and that the American dream would be on a forever-upward trajectory.
But, alas, since the 1970s industrial production has been retuning to a more balanced pattern of worldwide distribution, giving the impression that the United States was somehow failing, when in fact it and the rest of humanity were still on the rise.
This illusion that American has lost it way simply because production around the globe was retuning to a more normal pattern opened the door to demagogues like D. J. Trump. They prey upon Folks who thought that every American generation was going to have it better than their parent’s generation, folks who are stuck in a reality that they do not like. Trump has feasted on their frustration.
Unfortunately other factors such as global warming and over population are bound to keep Americans frustration at a level high even as they adjust to the new defused industrialization reality. Thus Trump and his kind will continue to have a future.
