Trump’s Bait And Switch To The Alt-right — And You
Okay, so Trump isn’t going to build the Great Wall Of America (just some symbolic gesture of one) across the nation’s southern border with Mexico. Nor is he going to do massive roundups of illegals and ship them back to from whence that came, at least at this juncture.
But he is laying the foundation for something that might serve him well and also please his xenophobic supporters. He is claiming that millions of illegals voted against him. Thus with voter fraud being one of the alt-right’s favorite conspiracy theories, Trump is beginning a campaign to put some real teeth into the voter suppression movement.
I mean what does Trump care if cheap labor abounds in America as long as it is made politically impotent. Even the tribal impulse of average White Americans will cause them not to find voter suppression of minorities all that objectionable.
As I have oft times stated, many Whites may see in Trump the devil himself but as long as Trump makes it know that he is their devil, White America will pretty much stay with him.
In any event, I think we have seen Trump’s pattern of governance. He will bate and switch one item of rhetorical nonsense with another. It has always been his style of leadership since it was taught to him by his fiendish mentor and right-hand man of the infamous Joseph McCarthy, Roy Cohn.
Besides the Donald takes a great deal of sadistic pleasure in keeping his enemies and the public off balance, having them wait with baited breath to see what he is up to next. This has always been the key element in reality TV, and now Trump is going to mainline the country with this sort of entertainment, except for rational, serious folks who understand the dangers of a reality TV show centered in the White House and therefore they are not entertained.
