Trump’s Buggy Whip Campaign
Everywhere he goes the Donald promises to bring back jobs in fading industries — steel, coal and paper in Maine. One keeps wondering when he will promise to revive the buggy-whip industry. Oh wait, folks in that industry have long since gone to their graves. No one left in that space to pander.
Time and technology march on, which is hard on folks whose livelihood is (was) based in a bygone era. They want so very badly to believe in the fairytales of hope that Trump spins to them. And for me, who likely will never move up to a smart phone, I get their being stuck in the past. Fortunately my living doesn’t depend on modern technology beyond a computer and email.
The real question is does Trump really believe his back to the past message, or is it just more BS hot air. If he did become president and decided to reverse time in order to try and placate his followers, it would be both an economic and environmental disaster.
Hopefully we will never have to witness Trump try to turn back the clock as president of the United States.
