Donald Trump’s initial advantage with people is that the less sophisticated will always jump to believe cons like the Donald when he tells them what they want to hear. In fact, as I have written on numerous occasions, many simple folks pray not so much for their daily bread as they do for their daily delusion.

So when winning over gullible folks, Trump has these first two factors bake in for him on the front end. But what happens when so much of what he promises turns out either to be just so much hot air, or what he says emerges to be disastrous for his supporters.

It is at this stage of the game that con men like Trump can always count on the pigeon becoming ego locked. This means that the base human ego, the center of the most primitive part of the mind, absolutely hates change of any kind for any reason. Thus once someone has made the initial decision that what the con is selling is true, it requires one to commit to an all out internal war against one’s own ego in order to admit that his first evacuation of his savior was wrong. The ultimate “true believer “personality can never be rationalized to a new opinion, but they can sometimes be converted to an entirely new belief system — Saul to Paul.

All in all, however, for those who are most easily ego locked, it is a long, laborious process to overcome. Conservatives, who, by definition do not easily embrace change, are at the top of the list for those most likely to become ego locked. This, one might supposed, is what caused Trump to lean to the Republican Party as his party of choice — natural Fox News pawns.
