Ulysses S. Grant was the first to gain the nickname “unconditional surrender” when Rebels asked for terms of surrender at Fort Donelson in 1862. It became a meme for demonstrating how tough the general could be.

When Speaker Paul Ryan hinted around that Trump needed to make concessions to party principles before he could back the Republican nominee, Trump made it abundantly clear by his screw you reaction that he intended to make no concessions to anyone. Ryan then immediately folded unconditionally.

Basically my way or no way has always been Trump’s modus operandi. This toughness above all else is what fires up his gleeful supporters. They gain enormous satisfaction in seeing Trump stick it to the man seemingly on their behalf. Trump is their white knight battling the dragons of their nightmares, mowing then down with easy.

The Donald likes to brag that he is bringing millions of new voters to the Republican Party. Don’t for one second believe it. These are not Republican voters. They could care less about conservative principles. They are strictly Trump backers that will evaporate the second, if and when, Trump bolts the political scene.

Meanwhile “unconditional surrender” Trump continues to march along his merry way trampling over all who would dare get in his way while millions of hopeful followers cheer him on.
