Unfortunately in politics perception is everything. Thus politicians most often don’t appeal to intellect for persuasion, they aims to convince one’s crude ego emotions of their message.

They find a story line that they think a certain group would perfer to believe, then try to support it for advantage. Ego emotion is juvenile, silly and relentlessly insistent. It is impervious to facts and reality.
