We are Blinded By Hope Because Hope Is All We Have

There are countless hopes we dare not think about. But even when not consciously expressed or thought about, they are always there in the backs of our minds.

Gee, I hope the concert won’t get rained out.

Gee, I hope my kid will be normal.

Gee, I hope I won’t get kill in a tornado.

Gee, I hope the stove won’t explode.

Gee, I hope I won’t get run over by a Truck going up the turnpike.

Gee, I hope my life has some kind of meaning.

Gee, I hope my last five dollars I sent to that TV evangelist will but me in good with Jesus.

Gee, I hope those red hat fools don’t turn America into a brutal dictatorship.

Gee, I hope my plane doesn’t crash.

Gee, I hope there is a loving God.

Gee, I hope that miracle drug gets perfected in time to save mom.

Gee, I hope that tumor isn’t cancerous.

Gee, I hope the Donald doesn’t lose the few marbles he has and trigger a mass extinction.

Gee, I hope a massive asteroid doesn’t hit the earth.

Gee, I hope that if I’m good there will be a place for me in heaven.

Meanwhile we write pretty poetry and cling to our Bibles and guns trying to hold off the worst while HOPING for the best. Indeed, being insignificant accidents of the universe all we can do is hope. Hope is the universe’s only true gift to us.
