We can’t directly fight corporations and super rich individuals, but we might enlist them to become hero citizens that work for all the nation and its citizens.
How do we do this you say? What about a simple rating system. Everybody loves rating systems — a Grand Citizen rating. We convene a panel of experts to come up with a way to give, say, the hundred richest corporations and individuals in the nation an American Grand Citizens rating.
The super rich like everyone else love to compete with each other. But right now much of the competition does little good for average citizens or the nation as a whole. Its just about how much they are worth compared to each other, not how much good they do.
Much of such a rating system should include how they use their money politically to benefit the nation — pushing Congress to pass bills that benefit the nation and the average joe over special interests.
Then every six months the media should publish the resulting rating update. It just might catch on with the money bags in a good way that benefits the nation and helps drive politicians to do what they should be doing.
Might sound corny, but what the heck? What can it hurt to give it a whirl? We just need to enlist the backing of a few good, high profile, rich guys like, say, Buffett and Gates to get the ball rolling — right!
