They all have a flagrant disregard for truth and honesty. For them there is economic and political gain to be had in spreading hateful lies.

Within every society there is a significant segment that sees its lives as hopelessly spoiled, as having failed to meet its expectations and is thus desperately in search of others to blame for its shortcomings — the government, minorities or even the Devil, anything but having to face its own failings head-on.

It is to these folk’s needs of unreality that the liars ply their trade of hateful misinformation for political and economic gain. So good are these liars at employing their malevolent story lines that they often even con themselves into believing their mendacities.

But what is it that has suddenly changed in America’s political life that this dark side of our nature has suddenly gained control of the political process to smother and besmirch our national ideals? Well, first it was a hateful portion of the media delighted to profit from the self-loathing of the discontented amidst our peoples. Then it was a political party desperate for votes that pandered to the xenophobic among us, and finally it was one especially despicable human being that managed to coalesce with these forces of evil to create an alt-right extravaganza.

These forces of corruption and evil have always existence within the American fabric, but only relatively recently has this fragmented blight become politically united within a single major partisan party, one having its own high octane propaganda machine — right-wing talk radio in concert with Fox News.

Often backed by deep-pocketed corporate interests, this force for self-aggrandizement most likely can only be stopped at that point where it turns against itself, as violent social/political movements eventually do.

Unfortunately by the time that happens millions of innocent lives have been devastated. It has been said that history is played out by the best and worst of society over the heads of the masses. This likely is the reason why democracies eventually give way to dictatorships — the public becomes exasperated and reverts to its tribal instincts.
