Yes, it is true that while Bernie Sanders was trying to build on the positive side of the tribal impulse to work together for the common good, Trump was fanning the flames of the negative tribal offset of hate the “other.”

Alas, as some wisemen have said, hate is the most powerful of unifying agents. In other words people feel much stronger being against something than being for something. Ruthless men like Trump are not bashful to exploit this most fundamental aspect of life.
