Your response reminds me of an article I had in mind to write. It comes down to the fact that I strongly suspect, that like Trump his followers are not so much interested in what’s best for the country in the long run but what is best for them in the moment. Like you say they are short term and near term focused. They have a bad case of egocentricity — instant gratification obsessed.

Meaning that the great national divide comes down to those of primitive ego vs those of at least some intellect.
